Next Monday, May 19, Finnair will be forced to cancel approximately 110 flights due to a strike called by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) at Helsinki Airport. This industrial action, lasting four hours, will disrupt key airline operations throughout the day.
The union protest, similar to those carried out earlier in the month, will affect critical shifts related to ground handling and catering services. These sectors are essential for flight operations, and their paralysis has compelled Finnair to take drastic measures to mitigate the impact on its services and customers.
14,000 Passengers Affected and Rebooking Measures
The flight cancellations will directly impact around 14,000 Finnair passengers. The airline has stated that all affected travelers will receive cancellation notices once processed. Subsequently, they will be offered alternative flight options, which can be checked either through Finnair’s “Manage Booking” service on its website or via its mobile app.
Additionally, passengers may modify their rebooked routes within the limits of flight availability or, if preferred, cancel their reservations and request refunds for unused tickets.

Recommendations for Monday’s Travelers
Finnair warns that the strike may cause further disruptions, particularly in baggage handling at Helsinki Airport. Passengers with flights scheduled for Monday are advised to take extra precautions:
- Check in early.
- Arrive at the airport well in advance.
- Carry essential items, such as medications, in their hand luggage.
These recommendations aim to minimize additional inconveniences during what is expected to be a particularly challenging day for airport operations in the Finnish capital.
Finnair emphasized the importance of keeping contact information up to date in bookings, as details about cancellations and alternative routes will be communicated via email or direct message. For those requiring further assistance, customer service is available to handle changes or cancellations according to passenger preferences.
The airline stated it is working to reduce disruptions caused by the strike as much as possible but acknowledged that the impact will be significant.
