Unprecedented Summer Sets the Stage for Fall

This fall surge follows a historic summer season for United in Chicago. In July, the company will reach a peak of 71,000 daily seats from O’Hare, the highest number in the last 20 years.

“Building on the momentum of a record-breaking summer, we’re taking our operations even further this fall with our most ambitious flight schedule of the year,” said Omar Idris, United’s Vice President at O’Hare. “We offer the broadest network of destinations from Chicago, along with new world-class amenities at the airport and onboard.”

Enhancing the Passenger Experience

The flight expansion is accompanied by significant investments in infrastructure and service. United has renovated and expanded its United Polaris lounge, which now spans nearly 25,000 square feet—a 50% increase in space. Additionally, the airline launched its first Starlink-equipped aircraft from Chicago, offering high-speed internet from boarding to landing, with free entertainment for MileagePlus members.

More Aircraft, More Comfort, More Jobs

With the addition of modern aircraft like the A321neo and 737 MAX 9, United will operate more flights with mainline cabins from O’Hare than in the past two decades. Every seat will feature individual screens and larger overhead bins for carry-on luggage.

The airline is also generating employment in the region. It has already hired over 2,000 new local employees, bringing its total to 18,000 in the Chicago metropolitan area, and plans to hire 5,400 more by 2027.

United continues to solidify its leadership in Chicago, offering more flights to more destinations than any other airline in the city.
