Thirty years after the last attempt, a Dominican airline is once again connecting Santo Domingo directly with the New York area. The low-cost carrier Arajet officially inaugurated its new daily route between Las Américas International Airport and Newark Liberty Airport, marking a turning point in the country’s air connectivity.
The inaugural flight, DM2310, landed in Newark at 10:30 a.m. this Monday with 185 passengers on board. Key figures at the event included Tourism Minister David Collado; the director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Igor Rodriguez; and Arajet’s founder and CEO, Victor Pacheco.
More Than a Route: A Commitment to the Diaspora and Tourism
For Victor Pacheco, CEO and founder of Arajet, this destination was always a priority. “New Jersey and New York are home to the largest Dominican diaspora and are also the states that contribute the most tourists to our country. Thanks to Arajet, all these passengers now have a daily option to travel to the Dominican Republic with affordable prices and first-class service,” he stated.

Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized the importance of this air expansion within the Dominican government’s tourism strategy: “Our goal is to enhance the country’s connectivity. That’s why we worked to secure the open skies agreement, enabling our airlines to offer routes that attract more tourists while also benefiting the Dominican diaspora with fair fares.”
Operational Details: Frequencies, Fares, and Fleet
The airline will operate daily flights between Santo Domingo and Newark using modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Tickets are available starting at $127 USD (one-way from Newark to Santo Domingo) and $135 USD for the return trip. Round-trip tickets can be purchased from $262 USD, positioning Arajet as one of the most affordable options for this air corridor.
Regional Connectivity and International Strategy
The launch of this route is part of an ambitious expansion plan aimed not only at strengthening flights between the Dominican Republic and the United States but also at increasing connectivity options from Santo Domingo to 24 other destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean.
With this step, Arajet continues its mission to redefine air travel in the region with competitive fares, reliable operations, and a customer-centric approach, opening new opportunities for both tourists and the Dominican diaspora.
