The Lufthansa Group is advancing the strategic integration of ITA Airways: starting July 1, 2025, code-share flights will be available on long-haul routes. Passengers will be able to combine flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines with intercontinental flights from ITA Airways—all under a single booking.
New Intercontinental Connections Starting in July
Among the highlighted new routes are:
- Frankfurt and Munich (Lufthansa) to Bangkok, Jeddah, and Riyadh, with a stopover in Rome via ITA Airways.
- Brussels (Brussels Airlines) to Cairo, also via Rome.
- Vienna (Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines) to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with a connection in the Italian capital.
These combinations will streamline international travel, significantly improving connectivity and allowing luggage to be transferred directly to the final destination.

Key Benefits for Passengers
According to Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, this code-share expansion enhances the customer experience: “We are offering a more seamless and consistent travel experience than ever before.” The benefits include:
- A perfectly coordinated network of routes across airlines and hubs.
- A single booking and check-in, even for flights with different airlines.
- The ability to earn and redeem miles through the Miles & More and Volare loyalty programs.
European Code-Share Already in Operation
Since March, passengers have had access to over 100 code-share flights on domestic Italian and European routes. This initiative has provided customers with greater flexibility, a wider range of schedules, and travel options—all while maintaining the convenience of a single ticket and checked luggage through to their final destination.
The Future: 250 Destinations with a Single Airline
Once the program is fully implemented, ITA Airways travelers will have access to over 250 code-share destinations operated by the Lufthansa Group. This positions the alliance as one of the most integrated and convenient networks in the global aviation market, with a clear focus on efficiency, comfort, and passenger experience.
The expansion of these cooperative agreements not only optimizes operations for both companies but also redefines connectivity standards in European and international air travel.
