TAP Air Portugal has just unveiled a new connection that promises to strengthen the historical and cultural ties between Portugal and the United States. Starting June 3, the Portuguese airline has added a new stop to its weekly flight between Lisbon and San Francisco: Terceira Island in the Azores archipelago. This service, operated every Tuesday with an Airbus A330neo, offers a direct link between the Atlantic island and the Californian city, making travel easier for a community of over 300,000 people of Azorean descent in the United States.
Strengthening Portugal’s Presence in North America
The new stop in Terceira is part of TAP’s recent expansions to its transatlantic network. On May 14, the airline launched a direct route between Porto and Boston, with four weekly flights—available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays—running until October 25. Just two days later, on May 16, the company introduced service between Lisbon and Los Angeles, with flights on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

These routes reflect the growing tourist interest between the two countries and the demand from the Portuguese diaspora in North America. The decision to include a stop in Terceira is specifically aimed at serving this community and positioning the Azores as a more prominent destination on the U.S. tourist radar.
With this strategic move, TAP Air Portugal continues to expand its route network intelligently, catering to both the diaspora and travelers seeking authentic experiences.
