JetSMART inaugurated its new direct route between Cali and San Andrés on Tuesday, offering four weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The route will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft, with a capacity of 186 passengers, providing a weekly total of 1,408 seats for both inbound and outbound flights.
This new connection strengthens the airline’s presence in the Colombian Caribbean, complementing its established Medellín–San Andrés route, which currently operates with 12 weekly frequencies. Combined, JetSMART now offers 7,812 weekly seats to the archipelago from Cali and Medellín.
“Your Own Island” Campaign: Tourism, Sustainability, and Identity
The launch of the route is accompanied by the “Your Own Island” campaign, an initiative developed in partnership with Decameron Hotels, OxoHotel (featuring the Grand Sirenis San Andrés Hotel), and the Archipelago’s Government. The campaign aims to promote conscious tourism and strengthen Colombians’ cultural ties with San Andrés.
The initiative encourages travelers not only to rediscover the island’s landscapes and attractions but also to take an active role in preserving its environmental and cultural heritage.
Projections
By October 2025, JetSMART expects to operate its San Andrés routes at full capacity, targeting a 23% share of the total air market to the island. The airline’s projected figures are:
- San Andrés–Bogotá (launching October 15): 10% of total offered capacity
- San Andrés–Medellín: 46%, with frequencies increasing from 12 to 16 weekly flights
- San Andrés–Cali: 39%, with flights rising from 4 to 7 per week
These goals reflect a clear and aggressive expansion strategy, particularly in the Medellín–Cali–San Andrés corridor.
Mario García, JetSMART’s Country Manager in Colombia, emphasized that this initiative goes beyond commercial growth. “San Andrés is much more than a spot on the map—it’s part of our national identity. This isn’t just about tourism; it’s a commitment to sustainable development, territorial integration, and fostering a sense of pride in one of the country’s most important natural and cultural treasures,” he stated.
The airline also anticipates an occupancy rate exceeding 85% on its San Andrés routes and does not rule out further capacity expansion in the short term if demand continues to grow.
