JetSMART Celebrates 9 Years: Ultra-Low-Cost Airline Transforming Aviation in South America

JetSMART marks its ninth anniversary with impressive figures that leave no doubt: it has become one of the most important and disruptive airlines in South America. As of June 2025, the airline has transported over 42.5 million passengers, representing a year-on-year growth of 47% and confirming its rapid consolidation in the regional market.

The ultra-low-cost carrier expanded its fleet from 17 aircraft in 2022 to 49 Airbus A320neo and A321neo planes, achieving a 188% increase in just three years. Over the past year, capacity also grew by 44%, enabling JetSMART to operate more than 80 routes across 8 countries and connect over 50 destinations on the continent.

A SMART Network Redefining Connectivity

“We have built a strong regional network with a presence in more than 50 cities across eight countries. Since 2022, when we moved past the pandemic, we have focused entirely on growth and are now the third-largest airline in the region,” said Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and founder of JetSMART.

Eighteen percent of its passengers have flown for the first time thanks to the airline, representing over seven million new air travelers. Ortiz emphasized: “We have made the dream of flying possible for millions of people.”

Goals for 2030: 100 Million Passengers and 120 Aircraft

JetSMART has set ambitious goals for the future: reaching 100 million passengers and a fleet of 120 aircraft by 2030. This projection is supported by a business model focused on operational efficiency, affordable fares, and a clear vision for sustainability and modernization.

Growth in Key Markets: Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Chile

During the first quarter of 2025, the airline recorded growth exceeding 40% compared to the same period the previous year. Operations have particularly strengthened in Colombia and Argentina, while in Peru and Chile, JetSMART has solidified its position as a preferred choice for passengers.

International Recognition and Strategic Alliances

In 2025, JetSMART was awarded the title of Best Low-Cost Airline in South America for the third time by the Skytrax Awards, reaffirming its reputation for punctuality, efficiency, and customer experience.

Its alliance with American Airlines also marks a milestone: since June, users can redeem miles from the AAdvantage program to fly across JetSMART’s entire network, making it the first Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier (ULCC) in the region integrated into a global loyalty program.

JetSMART GO and Austral: New Tools for a New Traveler

In a bid for innovation, JetSMART launched South America’s first flight subscription plan: JetSMART GO. With monthly pricing, this system allows travelers to fly within Chile, Argentina, Peru, or Colombia, similar to a streaming subscription.

Additionally, the company strengthened its digital ecosystem with Austral, a virtual assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence, which handles over 140,000 conversations per month in multiple languages and automates up to 80% of interactions.

JetSMART has not only changed the way people fly but has also democratized access to air travel in South America. With a long-term vision and a clear strategy, the airline continues to challenge the traditional market, staying true to its promise: bringing the SMART travel experience to every corner of the region.
