Venezuela: El Vigía Airport to Suspend Operations for 20 Days
The Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo Airport, located in El Vigía, Venezuela, will temporarily cease operations starting September 15. The measure, announced by its director José Maldonado, is part of a reconditioning plan expected to last approximately 20 days.
Why are flights being suspended?
The primary reason for the suspension is the complete resurfacing of the main runway and general infrastructure maintenance. Maldonado explained that these tasks are necessary to ensure operational safety and enhance the user experience.

Alternatives for Passengers
During the temporary closure, airlines Avior, Laser Airlines, and Estelar —the three currently operating at this terminal— may relocate their flights to nearby airports in La Fría or Santa Bárbara del Zulia. This decision aims to minimize disruptions to regional connectivity and ensure service continuity.
Although the temporary suspension may cause short-term inconveniences, the reconditioning promises significant medium- and long-term benefits. A safer and more efficient airport will not only improve the passenger experience but also strengthen tourism, commerce, and regional development.
