Volotea announced this Friday that it will begin operations at Vitoria Airport with two strategic routes: Madrid and Barcelona. Starting on November 1, 2025, coinciding with the beginning of the winter season, the airline will offer four weekly flights to each destination: on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

These will be the first routes operated by the company from Vitoria-Gasteiz. The award is part of a public tender aimed at promoting air connectivity at the Álava airport for one year, extendable to two.

Volotea Strengthens Its Commitment to the Basque Country

With these two new routes, Volotea now offers 28 connections in the Basque Country, expanding a network that already includes operations in Bilbao and San Sebastián.

Bilbao Airport is a key hub for the airline, which maintains one of its two Spanish bases there and operates 22 domestic and international routes. Additionally, in San Sebastián, Volotea manages four more routes, solidifying its presence across the entire region.

“Vitoria-Gasteiz has great potential, and at Volotea, we want to contribute to the development of Álava, alongside local institutions, VIA, and the airport,” said Gabriel Schmilovich, Volotea’s Strategy Director. “We do not rule out expanding our presence with new routes that meet local demand and boost economic and tourism activity.”

This move not only improves Vitoria-Gasteiz’s connections with the two largest cities in the country but also positions the Álava airport as a new key player in the domestic route network.

Flights are now available for booking on the airline’s website.
