São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport reached a milestone in July by handling 4.4 million passengers, making it the busiest month in its history. This figure surpasses the previous record set in January 2020, when 4.2 million passengers were recorded.
July 17 was the day with the highest passenger traffic, with over 151.6 thousand passengers in a single day, according to data from GRU Airport, the concessionaire that operates the airport.
Investments to Meet Growing Demand
The operator announced several improvements to respond to the strong growth in passenger numbers. One of the most recent was the modernization of the boarding pass reading system (BCBP), which is expected to streamline the access process.
Additionally, the company plans to invest R$ 1.4 billion in new infrastructure projects aimed at ensuring greater comfort for travelers.

Congonhas Also Undergoing Transformation
Another key airport in São Paulo is also undergoing a renovation process.
At Congonhas, located in the southern part of the city, expansion and modernization works have been underway since December 2024, with an investment of R$ 2.4 billion.
The project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal, more than double the current size, the addition of new boarding bridges, and the creation of 20,000 m² of commercial areas.
In addition to expanding operational areas, new equipment, technologies, and modern systems will be acquired, which will enhance operational efficiency. Another new feature is the adapted aircraft parking stands designed to accommodate higher-capacity models, such as the Airbus A321neo and the Boeing 737 Max 10.
On August 6, the expansion of the remote boarding lounge, located on the ground floor, was inaugurated. The space now more than doubles its previous area, increasing from 1,400 m² to 3,300 m².
According to Aena Brasil, the airport’s concessionaire, the goal is to turn Congonhas into a more modern, safe, and efficient airport.
