Aerolíneas Argentinas has announced the expansion of its network to Uruguay for the Southern Hemisphere summer season, introducing new routes from Brazil and increasing flight frequencies from Argentina.

For the first time since 2012, the airline will make use of the fifth freedom of the air, allowing it to operate international flights between third countries.

The major development is the launch of two weekly connections from Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre to Punta del Este.

  • Sao Paulo -> Punta del Este: Service begins on December 25, with departures on Thursdays and Fridays, and returns on Sundays and Mondays. Operations will continue until January 31.
  • Porto Alegre -> Punta del Este: Service starts on December 26, with flights on Fridays and Saturdays, returning on Saturdays and Sundays, also until January 31.

The airline’s strategy also includes an increase in operations from various Argentine cities to Uruguay:

  • Buenos Aires -> Punta del Este: 28 weekly flights, representing an increase of 5 compared to the previous summer.
  • Buenos Aires -> Montevideo: 16 weekly frequencies, 2 more than the last season.
  • Cordoba -> Punta del Este: 2 weekly flights, on Thursdays and Saturdays, starting January 1.

The President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Fabian Lombardo, emphasized that this initiative is part of a policy to maximize profitability and leverage seasonal demand: “This move reinforces the idea that our company must seek maximum profitability across our entire network, taking advantage of the opportunities that open up during the summer season to enhance our offering and variety of destinations.”

The proposal is complemented by special promotions, financing options, and benefits for members of the Aerolíneas Plus loyalty program, forming a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening the company’s role as a driver of regional tourism during the peak activity months.
