Spanish airline Iberia is expanding its Latin American destination network with the announcement of a new direct route between Madrid and Monterrey, set to begin operations on June 2, 2026. This connection reinforces the importance of the Mexican market within the company’s global strategy.
Three Weekly Flights with Strategic Schedules
The new route will operate with three weekly frequencies on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Flights will depart from Madrid at 12:55 and land in Monterrey at 17:25 on the same day. The return from the capital of the state of Nuevo León is scheduled for 18:50, arriving in the Spanish capital at 13:20 the following day.
The flights will operate from Terminal A of Monterrey International Airport, utilizing an Airbus A330-200, a twin-aisle aircraft with capacity for 288 passengers distributed in Business and Tourist Class.
According to María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Director of Commercial, Customers, Network, and Alliances, this new operation reflects “the commitment to a market as important, strategic, and beloved as Mexico’s.”

Mexico, Iberia’s Leading Latin American Market
With the opening of the Monterrey route, Iberia will exceed 800,000 annual seats connecting Mexico with Europe in 2026, a figure no other Latin American country reaches within the company’s network.
Currently, Iberia operates three daily flights between Madrid and Mexico City onboard modern Airbus A350s, totaling more than 770,000 seats per year.
The new Monterrey connection will add 40,000 additional seats during the European summer season, between June and October 2026.
Continuity During the Winter Season
Although the route will debut in the summer, Iberia confirmed that its operation will also extend into the winter season, the schedule for which will be announced shortly. With this, the airline aims to maintain a constant offering that strengthens the air link between Spain and Mexico, facilitating business travel, tourism, and connections to other European destinations.
