China Southern Launches New Route Between Guangzhou and Madrid
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport expands its network of destinations with the arrival of China Southern Airlines, which inaugurated a direct link to Guangzhou this Tuesday. With this operation, the Madrid hub now reaches 14 Asian destinations so far this year, most of them connected to China. The presence of this airline adds variety to the airport’s international offerings and strengthens the Spanish market’s projection toward the continent.
Three Weekly Frequencies
China Southern begins operations in Spain for the first time, offering three weekly flights scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The airline typically uses a Boeing 787-9 configured for nearly 300 passengers, providing significant capacity on a long-haul route that aims to establish itself in the operational schedule.

The inaugural flight reception was attended by senior executives from China Southern and representatives from Aena, who highlighted the significance of this opening for the growth of traffic and connectivity at the Madrid airport.
Guangzhou, a Key Megacity in Expansion
The new service connects Madrid with Guangzhou, China’s third most populous city, with an estimated population of 19 million inhabitants. This direct link strengthens access to a major economic center in the Asian country and creates opportunities for business travelers, tourism, and transit connections.
