Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific kicks off 2026 with the official launch of its 80th-anniversary celebrations, a date marking eight decades of propelling its home city, its people, and customers worldwide forward since 1946. Under the theme “80 Years Together,” the airline has designed a series of special events and initiatives that will unfold throughout the year to honor its journey and its role in international aviation.
An Anniversary Anchored in Shared History with Hong Kong
The “80 Years Together” concept encapsulates the relationship between Cathay and Hong Kong, a connection that has evolved alongside the city’s growth. From the days of Kai Tak Airport to its current operations at Chek Lap Kok, the company has accompanied generations of travelers for overseas studies, business, global exploration, family reunions, and critical supply transport missions.
During the launch event, Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam highlighted that this anniversary not only represents a corporate milestone but a joint celebration with Hong Kong, emphasizing how both parties have supported each other over eight decades.
An Iconic Design Returns to the Skies
As a prelude to the celebrations, Cathay unveiled a special paint scheme on one of its Airbus A350 aircraft. The design revives the emblematic green and white pattern known as the “lettuce leaf sandwich,” paired with the distinctive 80th-anniversary logo. This livery pays tribute to a style beloved by the public while symbolizing ongoing growth and progress.
In the coming weeks, the airline will reveal a second similar scheme on one of its Boeing 747 freighters, extending the visual reach of this historic tribute across both passenger and cargo operations.

Investment and Future Vision
Looking ahead, Cathay reaffirms its commitment to an investment exceeding HKD 100 billion dedicated to fleet, cabin products, VIP lounges, and digital innovation. This effort aims to elevate the customer experience and advance toward a renewed vision: becoming the most beloved service brand for its users.
Simultaneously, the company maintains its goal of strengthening Hong Kong’s position as one of the world’s leading international aviation hubs, solidifying its strategic role in the region and globally.
Vintage Uniforms and Spotlight on the Human Team
One of the most striking elements of the launch was the appearance of cabin crew wearing historical uniforms from different eras of the brand’s design. This gesture acknowledges the generations of professionals who have defined Cathay’s signature in-flight service.

Throughout 2026, between 1,000 and 2,000 employees, both aircrew and ground staff, will wear and display these garments during their workdays, bringing a living dimension to the airline’s visual evolution.
Special Collection of Commemorative Products
The celebrations will also reach customers through a carefully curated merchandise collection, inspired by the special liveries and iconic designs from different eras. This line will reinterpret historical elements in items related to aviation, travel, and everyday use, reinforcing the emotional bond with the brand.
A Year Full of Announcements to Come
Cathay has previewed that throughout this commemorative year, it will announce more activities and initiatives related to its 80th anniversary. With the ongoing support of employees, customers, and partners, the airline is confident it will continue to soar as one of the most representative brands of Hong Kong and the global aviation sector.
