Five years after its inception, Discover Airlines is taking a strategic leap that marks a turning point in its positioning within the long-haul leisure airline segment. The carrier has announced the largest investment in its history, dedicated to the complete cabin refurbishment of its 16 Airbus A330-300 aircraft, introducing a comprehensive new product named “Ocean Blue”.
This initiative is far more than a simple aesthetic redesign. The program aims to structurally elevate the onboard experience across Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class, blending cutting-edge design, comfort, and technology with a clearly defined implementation schedule.
Timeline and Configuration: A Full Renovation in Under Two Years
The first A330-300 equipped with the new cabin is scheduled to enter service in April 2027. From that point, the fleet will be modernized progressively, with the goal of completing the entire program by mid-2028.
Following the conversion, each aircraft will feature 288 seats, distributed as follows:
- 227 seats in Economy Class
- 31 seats in Premium Economy Class
- 30 seats in Business Class
Ocean Blue: Visual Identity and Brand Heritage
The new cabin name, Ocean Blue, is a direct tribute to the airline’s origins. Discover Airlines was founded in 2020 as an internal project titled “Ocean,” and its crews continue to use the callsign OCN in communications with air traffic controllers to this day.
From a design perspective, Ocean Blue draws inspiration from the colors and vastness of the sea:
- Deep blue tones and clean lines dominate the aesthetic.
- Carefully selected color accents and finishes ensure a consistent sense of quality across all cabins.
- The concept reinforces the link with the Lufthansa Group, maintaining visual standards consistent with the conglomerate while asserting a personality tailored to the vacation traveler.
Human-Centric Lighting
A core feature across the entire cabin is the integration of human-centric lighting. This system utilizes varying light tones to align with passengers’ biological rhythms. This is particularly vital for long-haul flights, where managing jet lag and enhancing onboard well-being directly impact customer satisfaction.
A Qualitative Leap Across All Classes
Economy Class: Real Space Optimization

In Economy, Discover Airlines is introducing optimized seating that offers increased legroom and a more comfortable recline angle. Key features include:
- Six-position adjustable headrests
- Expanded storage space
- The continued option to reserve seats with extra legroom
- A tangible focus on improving ergonomics for long-duration flights
Premium Economy: A Benchmark in the Leisure Segment

Already a high-demand product, the airline aims for its Premium Economy to be among the best in the leisure market. The “Ocean Blue” update significantly bolsters this offering with:
- A hard-shell design, allowing for recline without impacting the passenger behind
- Discreet privacy screens
- Integrated leg rests and individual reading lights
- Highly flexible and comfortable seating positions for intercontinental travel
Business Class: Direct Access and Enhanced Privacy

The Business Class cabin will adopt a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring direct aisle access for every passenger.
- Approximately half of the seats are arranged in pairs with adjustable privacy dividers, allowing travelers to choose between companionship or complete independence.
- Seats continue to convert into two-meter-long fully flat beds.
- The new design provides increased privacy, more personal space, and expanded storage capacity.
Business Class Suite: The New Product Showpiece

The most distinctive element of the new concept is the two Business Class Suites located in the first row. These exclusive spaces feature:
- Sliding doors approximately 1.20 meters high
- Massive 32-inch monitors
- Extended legroom and storage
- An enhanced gastronomic offering
- A privacy divider for individual or shared use
These suites position Discover Airlines at a level rarely seen within the long-haul leisure market.
Technology and Connectivity: 4K, Bluetooth, and Starlink
“Ocean Blue” extends beyond physical comfort into significant technological upgrades across the fleet:
- Larger 4K touchscreens in all classes
- Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones
- USB-C ports at every seat in Economy
- USB-C, power outlets, and wireless charging in Premium Economy and Business
- Noise-canceling headphones provided in Premium Economy for the first time
Furthermore, while the entire long-haul fleet already offers onboard internet, Discover Airlines announced that all A330s will be upgraded to the Starlink satellite connectivity system, which will be offered free of charge to passengers.
A Triple-Digit Investment and a Market Statement
Ulrich Lindner, CEO of Discover Airlines, confirmed that the program involves an investment of several hundred million euros.
“With this investment, we are setting new standards for long-haul flights in the leisure segment,” Lindner stated. “Five years after our founding, we are investing a triple-digit million sum specifically in comfort, quality, and the travel experience”.
