Lufthansa has reached a new milestone in the implementation of its Allegris Business Class product on the Boeing 787-9. Following key advancements in the certification process, the airline has opened bookings for 25 of the 28 seats in this Dreamliner cabin, with availability for travel starting April 15.

The only exceptions are three seats located in the second row, which are still awaiting final approval. The rest of the Business cabin is now available for sale, representing a significant step in the expansion of the German carrier’s new premium concept.

Allegris: A Comprehensive Redesign for Long-Haul

Lufthansa introduced Allegris in the summer of 2024 as a completely revamped concept for long-haul flights. Since then, the product has been operating from Munich on the Airbus A350-900 for over a year and a half.

The expansion to the Boeing 787-9 from Frankfurt began on October 9, 2025, marking the start of the progressive incorporation of the new cabin standard into the airline’s Dreamliner fleet.

According to Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, more than one million passengers have traveled in the new cabin since its 2024 launch. The executive emphasized that the approval of the majority of Business seats on the 787-9 constitutes “an important milestone for Lufthansa” and a significant expansion of the product’s availability from Frankfurt.

Configuration and Seat Options in Business Class

With the opening of reservations, passengers can select from various configurations within the Allegris Business cabin.

Seats Included at No Extra Cost

Classic Seats remain available without an additional charge and offer all the benefits of the new travel class.

Premium Options with a Surcharge

Lufthansa also allows for the advance reservation of seats with distinct features through an additional fee:

  • Business Class Suite
  • Extra Space Seat: Features increased legroom
  • Privacy Seat: Located next to the window
  • Extra Long Bed: Offers a sleeping surface of 2.20 meters

This approach introduces a finer segmentation within Business Class itself, aligning with recent trends in the long-haul premium market.

Initial Route Network from Frankfurt

With the commencement of the summer schedule, the Allegris-equipped Boeing 787-9 will operate from Frankfurt to:

  • Austin
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Bogota
  • Cape Town
  • Shanghai
  • Hyderabad
  • Hong Kong

In June, New York (JFK) and Los Angeles will be added, while Delhi will join the network in July.

Boeing 787-9 Fleet Expansion

Lufthansa has currently received eight new Boeing 787-9s in Frankfurt. Furthermore, the airline has 21 additional Dreamliners on order, aiming for a total of 29 Boeing 787-9s by the end of 2027.

The progressive certification of the Business cabin on this model is therefore a central element of the company’s medium-term product and fleet renewal strategy. With over a million customers already experiencing Allegris since 2024, Lufthansa continues to standardize its premium long-haul offering, utilizing the Dreamliner fleet as a key platform for growth.
