Finnair Renews Regional Fleet: Orders Up to 46 Embraer E195-E2 Aircraft
Finnair has selected the Embraer E195-E2 to modernize its short-haul network, signing an agreement for up to 46 aircraft. This strategic investment seeks to drive profitable growth, improve operational efficiency, and significantly reduce the Finnish carrier’s carbon footprint.
A Strategic Pillar for Finnair’s Growth
The flag carrier of Finland and Embraer have formalized a contract representing one of the largest investments in the company’s 102-year history. The agreement is broken down as follows:
- 18 firm orders.
- 16 additional purchase options.
- 12 purchase rights.
The E195-E2, currently the quietest single-aisle aircraft on the market, will replace older models within Finnair’s regional fleet. According to the airline’s CEO, Turkka Kuusisto, this step is vital for strengthening the European network, seizing new market opportunities, and boosting competitiveness through the versatility and reliability of the Brazilian-made equipment.
Operational Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability
The selection of the Embraer E195-E2 responds not only to capacity requirements but also to stringent climate targets. This model offers decisive technological advantages over the previous generation E190 currently operated by the airline:

The aircraft will be configured with a 134-seat capacity, providing an ideal balance between density and comfort for regional and short-haul routes within Europe.
Delivery Schedule
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, highlighted that this partnership will help Finnair modernize its fleet to meet the challenges of today’s market.
The established timeline indicates that deliveries will begin in the second half of 2027. In financial terms, this order will be formally integrated into Embraer’s backlog for the first quarter of 2026.
