ITA Airways has announced the addition of Santo Domingo as its first destination in the Caribbean, marking a significant milestone in its expansion strategy. This new seasonal route, connecting Rome Fiumicino Airport with the capital of the Dominican Republic, is scheduled to begin operations during the 2026-2027 winter season.
Operational Details and Fleet
The new connection between Italy and the Caribbean is slated to launch on November 30, 2026. Initially, the airline will operate a weekly frequency on Mondays. From December 14 through the end of March 2027, the service will increase to two weekly flights, adding Sundays to the flight schedule.
For this service, the company will deploy the modern Airbus A330neo aircraft. This model is configured with three cabin classes to maximize passenger comfort:

Consolidating the Intercontinental Strategy
The opening of this route aligns with the company’s commercial strategy to strengthen its presence in the Americas, where it already operates direct flights to the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina. These markets are considered key due to the large populations of Italian descent and the steady flow of travelers from Italy.
Growth in the intercontinental segment is a fundamental pillar for the airline, supported by the gradual expansion of its long-haul fleet. This new route to Santo Domingo follows the recent frequency increases to destinations in India and Thailand implemented in August, confirming the company’s commitment to long-distance markets during the winter season.
A Commitment to Tourism and Connectivity
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial, Network & Incentive Management Officer at ITA Airways, highlighted the importance of this new destination:
“With Santo Domingo, we are reinforcing our presence in the Americas and enhancing our offering to and from Rome Fiumicino with a new and highly attractive destination. This route is designed for our customers, who will be able to plan their winter vacations with the convenience of a direct flight and the comfort of our Airbus A330neo.”
Furthermore, the executive noted that this service represents a high-quality product for tourism industry partners, facilitating travel planning in a market with high seasonal demand.
Flight Availability
Tickets for the Rome – Santo Domingo route are now available through all of the airline’s sales channels, including its official website, mobile app, customer service offices, travel agencies, and airport ticket counters.
