Following the lifting of national airspace restrictions, Kuwait’s primary carriers are preparing to reactivate international connectivity this Sunday under a phased reopening plan designed by civil aviation authorities.
Strategic Reopening of National Airspace
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait confirmed the reopening of the country’s airspace this past Thursday. This measure follows a multi-phase plan established by the authority to restore traffic incrementally, with the ultimate goal of reaching full operational capacity following the preventive closure initiated on February 28 due to the armed conflict in Iran.
It is worth noting that during this period of hostilities, Kuwait International Airport and its surrounding areas were targeted in several attacks, which necessitated the suspension of all commercial operations for security reasons.
Schedule Reactivation: Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways
Starting this Sunday, the country’s two main airlines will begin recovering their destination networks from their respective base terminals:
Kuwait Airways
The national flag carrier will resume flights to 17 international destinations. Its operations will be centralized at Terminal 4 of the capital’s airport, marking the return of state-owned connectivity after the interruption caused by the conflict.
Jazeera Airways
The low-cost carrier (LCC) will restart services to 9 destinations operating from Terminal 5. During the time Kuwaiti airspace remained closed, Jazeera Airways maintained a contingency operation by temporarily shifting its bases to Al Qaisumah and Dammam airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The restart of activities this Sunday represents the first critical step in the normalization of air transport within the country.
