Panama: Tocumen Airport Records 15% Growth, Surpassing 5.7 Million Passengers in Q1
Tocumen International Airport has begun 2026 by consolidating its position as Latin America’s primary hub. Between January and March, the Panamanian terminal reached a historic peak in passenger traffic, reflecting the dynamism of regional connectivity and robust demand within the aviation sector.
Operational Performance and Passenger Traffic
During the first quarter of 2026, the airport recorded a total movement of 5,720,853 passengers. This figure represents a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, equivalent to adding 754,213 passengers to the system. This traffic volume not only marks a milestone for the terminal but also reaffirms its strategic role as an international connectivity axis.
Regarding flight operations, the terminal managed a total of 44,557 movements in the first three months of the year. This performance signifies a 12% increase over Q1 2025, translating into 4,437 additional operations, including takeoffs and landings.
Logistics and Air Cargo: Commercial Strengthening
The logistics sector also showed positive evolution. Air cargo transport moved 61,194 metric tons, representing 9% growth compared to the previous year. This operational flow involved:
- More than 4,821 import and export movements of goods and mail.
- The consolidation of the terminal as a strategic platform for national competitiveness and international trade.

Regional Network and Global Connectivity
The administration of Tocumen, S.A., which oversees the regional airport network, reported favorable results across its secondary terminals:
- Enrique Malek (David)
- Panama Pacifico
- Scarlett Martinez (Rio Hato)
- Enrique Jimenez (Colon)
Combined, these airports moved 236,682 passengers and recorded 10,552 aircraft movements. These figures underscore the network’s contribution to tourism development and Panama’s internal connectivity.
At the international level, Tocumen maintained a connectivity network linking more than 90 destinations across South America, Central America, the Caribbean, North America, and Europe. This operation is supported by 15 passenger airlines and 17 cargo carriers.

Jose Ruiz Blanco, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, highlighted that these results are the product of a strategy focused on sustainability and enhancing the passenger experience. According to the executive, the terminal does not merely connect destinations; it connects opportunities for economic development and regional trade.
