Canadian carrier WestJet has announced a significant transformation of its digital platform, allowing passengers to book international interline itineraries directly through its official channels. This strategic enhancement, debuting with Copa Airlines as the launch partner, aims to simplify access to hundreds of destinations across six continents.
A Leap in Digital Experience and Connectivity
Starting now, WestJet users can purchase flights combining the Canadian airline’s segments with partner carriers via its website, mobile app, and contact center. Previously, these options were primarily limited to travel agency channels, but they are now integrated into a single booking with coordinated connections.
This technological evolution will eventually allow customers to access a network of nearly 50 interline partners. By the end of 2026, the airline projects enabling direct sales with more than 10 strategic partners, adding over 100 net destinations to its global network.
Exclusive Passenger Benefits
The integration of these interline capabilities offers operational and loyalty advantages previously reserved for codeshare agreements:
- Centralized Management: Travelers will be able to manage changes and cancellations directly with WestJet, identical to flights operated by the airline itself.
- Loyalty Program: WestJet Rewards can be earned across the entire interline itinerary, and WestJet dollars can be used as a form of payment for redemptions.
- Simplified Logistics: From the initial check-in point, passengers will receive all boarding passes and baggage tags through to their final destination.
“This enhancement will bring dream destinations, such as the Great Wall of China or iconic cities like Lima, within reach for many more Canadians,” said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet Director of Airport Affairs and Alliances.
Strategic Alliance with Copa Airlines
The rollout of this new capability begins with Copa Airlines, facilitating access for Canadians to Central and South America through four WestJet destinations in Mexico and the Hub of the Americas in Panama City.
Thanks to this agreement, passengers can book flights to 37 destinations operated by Copa across 18 countries, including nations such as:
- Argentina
- Chile
- Ecuador
- Peru
- Uruguay
- Guatemala
Roadmap: 2026-2027 Expansion
The airline will not stop in the Latin American region. Throughout 2026 and 2027, WestJet will expand its direct channel offerings to include world-renowned partner networks such as:
- Korean Air
- Japan Airlines
- Kenya Airways
- LATAM Airlines
- Saudia
This expansion will incorporate international destinations that were previously unavailable for direct sale by WestJet, consolidating its position as a major player in global connectivity from Canada.
With this move, WestJet not only optimizes its technological infrastructure but also redefines its value proposition by offering a seamless, unified travel experience with unprecedented geographical reach for its passengers.
