Wingo Strengthens Caribbean Network with New Direct Barranquilla-Aruba Route

Wingo and the Barranquilla Mayor’s Office have announced the launch of a new direct international connection between Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport and the “Happy Island.” This operation, scheduled to begin on July 9, 2026, positions Barranquilla as a strategic hub for low-cost connectivity within the Colombian Caribbean.

Operational Details and Capacity

The new route will operate with two weekly frequencies, scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays. This flight schedule aims to serve leisure travelers, business commuters, and VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) traffic, providing a total capacity exceeding 18,000 seats during the initial season.

Tickets are already available through the airline’s sales channels with fares starting at $116 per way, a price point that includes all applicable fees and taxes.

Wingo’s Sixth Destination from Barranquilla

With this addition, the capital of the Atlántico department consolidates its partnership with the carrier, bringing the total number of destinations served from the city to six:

Furthermore, Barranquilla becomes the fifth Colombian city to offer direct Wingo service to Aruba, joining the airline’s established network from Bogota, Medellin, Cali, and Bucaramanga. Currently, this will be the only direct route available in the market between these two points, eliminating the need for layovers and significantly reducing travel times.

Strategic Impact and Regional Development

The announcement took place at Barranquilla’s Gran Malecón, highlighting the role of tourism as a primary driver of local economic development. According to Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s Vice President of Commercial and Planning, the route addresses specific market opportunities identified in segments such as medical tourism and the strong familial ties between the two regions.

The introduction of this route not only expands leisure options for Barranquilla residents but also reinforces the Atlántico department’s standing as the premier gateway to the Colombian Caribbean.
