Azul Linhas Aereas cements long-haul strategy with new Airbus A330neo order

Brazilian carrier Azul Linhas Aereas has disclosed an additional order for four Airbus A330-900 aircraft, cementing the model as the backbone of its international long-haul operations. This order, which was previously listed as undisclosed in the manufacturer’s backlog, brings the company’s total number of A330neo aircraft on order to 11.

Efficiency and commonality in long-haul operations

Azul’s relationship with this widebody aircraft family is well established. In 2019, the airline marked a milestone by taking delivery of the first A330neo in the Americas. Integrating this model has enabled the carrier to optimize its operating costs, thanks to the technical and operational commonality it shares with its existing previous-generation fleet, the Airbus A330ceo.

The A330neo has proven to be a highly efficient asset for Azul’s network. Powered by latest-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 delivers superior economics and features a non-stop range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometers). This capability is crucial for the airline’s connectivity; since its founding in 2008, Azul has expanded its network to serve more than 137 destinations across Brazil, in addition to operating direct international flights to the United States, Europe, and South America.

For long-haul passengers, the continuation of the A330neo within Azul’s fleet ensures the high comfort standards associated with Airbus’s award-winning Airspace cabin. The aircraft’s interior design focuses on redefining the travel experience through the following features:

  • Enhanced baggage capacity: Larger overhead bins for personal carry-on storage.

Airbus’s market positioning in Latin America

This latest order from Azul reinforces Airbus’s dominance in the Latin America and Caribbean region, a market where the European manufacturer has sold more than 1,300 aircraft and maintains a leading share of the passenger fleet in service. Currently, over 900 of the firm’s aircraft operate in regional skies, and its order backlog represents approximately 70% of the Latin American market’s future fleet.

Globally, the A330 program continues to show strong commercial traction. By the end of April 2026, the Airbus A330 aircraft family had accumulated a total of 1,970 firm orders from 133 customers worldwide.
