Civil Aeronautics Authority and EASA Strengthen Strategic Cooperation to Elevate Aviation Safety Standards in Colombia

The Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) of Colombia received an official visit from Alessandro Cannizzaro, Latin America Representative for the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), one of the world’s primary civil aviation regulatory authorities.

This technical visit takes place within the framework of the bilateral cooperation agreement active since 2020—which features biennial renewal cycles—aimed at optimizing operational safety standards, technical efficiency, and logistical capacity across Colombian airport infrastructure and airspace.

Strategic Pillars of the Bilateral Agenda

During the working sessions, technical delegations from Aerocivil and EASA are conducting analytical panels focused on four core pillars for the country’s operational development:

Airspace Optimization and Modernization: Implementation of European methodologies and best practices for the design and modernization of flight trajectories within national airspace.
UAS/Drone Integration and Regulations: Definition of cutting-edge regulatory frameworks aimed at ensuring the safe, coordinated, and oversight-guided operation of unmanned aircraft systems.
Airport Infrastructure and Safety: Evaluation and enhancement of operational protocols and safety infrastructure at Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro.
Support for the Domestic Aerospace Industry: Meetings with key productive sector stakeholders, highlighted by the participation of the Colombian Aerospace Industry Corporation (CIAC), to facilitate the validation, certification, and internationalization of Colombian-manufactured aeronautical parts, components, and services.

Through the execution of this high-level agenda, Colombia reaffirms its commitment to international regulatory convergence, positioning itself as a regional benchmark for the continuous enhancement of operational safety and civil aviation modernization.
