Iberia Group — comprising mainline carrier Iberia, low-cost subsidiary Iberia Express, and regional franchisee Air Nostrum — will expand its flight operations between Madrid-Barajas and Menorca Airport starting next November, offering a total of three daily flights throughout the winter season (running from November through March).

This operational capacity boost follows the tender award by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for the operation of the route under the Public Service Obligation (PSO) framework.

Strategic Hub Connectivity and Capacity Expansion at Madrid-Barajas

The addition of this third daily frequency represents a substantial improvement in air connectivity for the island of Menorca:

  • 27% Increase in Seat Capacity: Introducing a third daily frequency yields a 27% increase in seat availability compared to the previous PSO contract terms.
  • Operational Transition: Air Nostrum, Iberia’s regional carrier responsible for operating the winter route schedule, will step up frequencies from two daily flights previously to three daily round trips.
  • International Feeder Operations: Consolidating this expanded timetable optimizes seamless transfer connections from Menorca (MAH) to Iberia’s international network of over 100 destinations served via its primary hub at Madrid-Barajas Airport.
  • Commercial Availability: Tickets for the winter schedule are already available across the airline’s official distribution channels.

“Adding an extra daily flight this winter represents a critical step toward overcoming seasonality and facilitating seamless travel for both business and leisure passengers. Furthermore, this reinforced schedule provides Menorca with a far more direct and convenient connection to our entire international route network via the Madrid hub.”

Summer Season Operational Performance Review

The winter capacity reinforcement complements the record-breaking summer operation deployed by the group’s low-cost carrier, Iberia Express, during the current summer season:

  • Flight Volume and Seat Capacity: Iberia Express reached nearly 1,200 flights and made over 230,000 seats available between Menorca and Madrid, representing a 17% expansion compared to 2025 levels.
  • Peak Frequency Operations: During peak summer demand weeks, the carrier operated an average of 56 weekly flights, reaching operational peaks of up to five daily frequencies on select high-demand days.

Under this new PSO framework for the winter months, Iberia Group reaffirms its long-standing commitment to Balearic Islands air connectivity and seasonal de-peaking initiatives across regional markets.
