Aeromexico plans to launch scheduled operations to Caracas, Venezuela, starting in the first quarter of 2027, following a delay to its initial timeline caused by an earthquake. The announcement was confirmed by Chief Executive Officer Andrés Conesa, who also noted that the carrier is evaluating upgrading its seasonal route between Mexico City and Santiago de Chile to year-round service.

Rescheduling the Venezuela Route for 2027

Speaking at the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) forum held in Mexico, the airline’s chief executive outlined the status of the carrier’s planned expansion into the Venezuelan market:

  • Postponement of Initial Launch Date: The carrier originally planned to launch service to the Venezuelan capital by late this year; however, disruptions caused by an earthquake forced a temporary suspension of the launch.
  • Revised Launch Window: The airline now officially projects launching flights in the first quarter of 2027.
  • Operational Readiness: Conesa stressed that the airline is fully prepared to launch the route and aims to inaugurate operations as soon as feasible.

Chilean Market and the Impact of the Boeing 787 Retrofit Program

During the same event, the executive addressed the status of the route linking Mexico City International Airport with Santiago de Chile, a service operated strictly on a seasonal basis to date.

Key factors shaping capacity to the Southern Cone include:

  • Demand Performance: Conesa described passenger demand in the Chilean market as very strong, supporting the commercial rationale for establishing a permanent presence.
  • 787 Fleet Retrofit Program: The technical factor preventing year-round scheduled service has been a temporary capacity constraint driven by interior modernization programs across the carrier’s widebody fleet.
  • Transition to Year-Round Service: Once this cabin modification phase is completed or sufficiently advanced, the airline will assess converting the seasonal flight into year-round, non-stop service to secure an uninterrupted schedule.

Through these network and fleet adjustments, Aeromexico continues to reshape its South American footprint, earmarking the first quarter of 2027 as the key milestone for its Caracas launch while preparing for a sustained return to the Chilean capital.
