Etihad Airways Launches First Nonstop Route Between Persian Gulf and Calgary
Etihad Airways has inaugurated its direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Calgary International Airport, marking a historic connectivity milestone by linking the Gulf region with Western Canada nonstop for the first time.
The inaugural flight, EY29, touched down Monday morning in Calgary with a full passenger load.
With this launch, Calgary becomes Etihad Airways’ second Canadian destination, complementing its well-established service to Toronto.

- Route: Abu Dhabi – Calgary – Abu Dhabi
- Frequency: Four weekly flights
- Aircraft Type: Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The new route strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub, enabling passengers originating in Western Canada to connect seamlessly to Etihad’s destination network across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India, Asia, and Africa.
Furthermore, the link unlocks two-way access to major commercial hubs and prime leisure destinations:
- For inbound travelers to Canada: It streamlines access to Alberta’s primary financial, energy, and innovation center, while also serving as a direct gateway to Banff and Jasper National Parks in the Canadian Rockies.
- For outbound travelers to the Middle East: It brings Abu Dhabi’s cultural and entertainment offerings within easy reach—including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Saadiyat Island, and the Yas Island leisure complexes—bolstered by the carrier’s dedicated stopover program.
