Airbus will deliver the first U.S.-made A220.
Airbus is preparing to deliver its first U.S.-built A220 aircraft to Delta Air Lines this month, a milestone that comes on the company’s fifth anniversary in Mobile, Alabama.
Since opening the plant in 2015, Airbus has used the facility to manufacture more than 180 aircraft of the A320 family for U.S. customers, the company said.

“When we announced our intention to build A320 Family aircraft in the United States, and to locate that facility in Mobile, Alabama, we also stated our intention to be a good neighbor, to create jobs and opportunities, and to help strengthen the U.S. aerospace industry. Five years later, we have become a major economic driver in creating an aerospace center on the Gulf Coast,” said Jeffrey Knittel, chief executive officer of Airbus Americas.
The European manufacturer also reported that its newly expanded delivery center in Mobile will be named after one of the company’s former leaders, Tom Enders. The former CEO supported and pushed for the creation of an Airbus aircraft production facility in the U.S.
