United Airlines returns to JFK airport in 2021.
United Airlines is moving forward with plans to return to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport next year, where it wants to “compete aggressively” on transcontinental routes to the West Coast.
The airline plans to connect JFK to the West Coast – probably with its hubs in Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) – as well as some of its other domestic hubs when flights resume in 2021, said United’s chief executive officer, Scott Kirby.

“We have been working very hard to use the pandemic as a way to get back to JFK. I have reasonable confidence that we will succeed,” Kirby said.
The airline faces stiff competition when it returns to JFK. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways consider the airport a hub, and each airline offers its own premium products on high-profile routes to the West Coast.
United left JFK in October 2015 when it completed nonstop flights to LAX and San Francisco.
