PSA Airlines will resume hiring new pilots.
American Airlines’ regional subsidiary, PSA Airlines, plans to resume hiring new pilots this year, according to a memo seen by Reuters, a positive sign for the industry that has been severely affected by the pandemic.

After years of intense recruitment to address a potential shortage of pilots in an industry that was growing before the pandemic, PSA and other airlines were forced to freeze new hiring last year and lay off thousands of employees.

“As we continue to work with American Airlines to identify our flight needs this year, we will begin recruitment efforts for first officer team members,” said Keith Stamper, vice president of air operations for PSA, in a January 15 memorandum.
A PSA spokesperson confirmed the plans, which also include the hiring of new flight attendants, but said, “We refuse to disclose specific hiring figures at this time.
