Dubai Airport to close north runway for renovations

Dubai International Airport (DXB) on Tuesday confirmed plans to close the northern runway for a 45-day period between May 9 and June 22, 2022, to carry out a complete refurbishment to ensure continued safety and efficient operations.

While regular runway maintenance is scheduled on a weekly basis, more extensive upgrades such as the one planned require a complete runway closure. This level of work was last performed on the north runway in 2014, while the south runway underwent similar upgrades in 2019.

As DXB is a dual runway operation, the hub will continue to receive passengers during this period. However, some flights will be diverted to Dubai World Central (DWC), the City’s second airport, to limit the impact on service during the closure period. The airport has given advance notice to all airlines to anticipate flight reductions and plan schedules accordingly.

The airport also advises passengers who will be traveling to Dubai during the closure period to check with their respective airlines about the airport and arrival/departure terminal prior to their travels.
