Israel to ban Boeing 747 and other four-engine planes

Israel will ban operations with the Boeing 747 and other similar four-engine planes from March 31, 2023, to reduce noise and air pollution, the airport authority said on Sunday.

As part of a broader plan underway to improve the surrounding environment, the authority said it had already informed airlines that they would not be able to land such planes at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv from 2023.

The directive is primarily for cargo planes as most carriers have stopped using 747s and other four-engine planes on routes to Israel.

The operation of aircraft with four engines will be allowed in exceptional cases and only with a special permit.
