Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics announced on Tuesday that it will build a modern Center for Air Accident Investigation – CIAA in western Bogota.
The Civil Aeronautics emblematic building is designed to improve Colombia’s air accident investigation capabilities and position the country as a leader in this field at the South American regional level.
The objective is to have an architectural complex with technology and experts to develop autonomously and independently the processes of air accident investigation, to increase technical knowledge and prevent future accidents and incidents in civil aviation.

The architectural project comprises the construction of a two-basement, five-story building, with an area of approximately 9,433 square meters. The construction of the new Air Accidents Investigation Center will be completed in April 2025, with an investment of approximately $42,422 million.
According to the Director General of Civil Aeronautics, Sergio París Mendoza, “the construction of the CIAA will improve the quality and timeliness of the investigation of aviation accidents, in the same building, with greater physical and operational autonomy. Additionally, it will generate better working conditions for the public servants who work in the investigation of aviation accidents.

The Air Accident Investigation Center – CIAA will have modern, ecological and appropriate facilities to house the necessary resources for the investigation, accident control center, storage of evidence and major components, areas for inspection of evidence, analysis of records, classrooms and auditorium for training, and areas for administrative support, legal and documentary management of the investigation.
