Wildfire smoke from Canada disrupts New York flights
Some flights to New York City were delayed Wednesday and others were briefly disrupted due to low visibility caused by wildfire smoke from Canada.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) slowed traffic, but on Wednesday afternoon lifted the suspension of flights from the Midwest and East Coast bound for New York’s LaGuardia International Airport.

United, the largest airline at Newark, said it was adjusting its schedule as necessary, while Delta, the largest at LaGuardia said it does not expect cancellations at this time due to visibility problems, Reuters reported.
Hundreds of wildfires in Canada have caused a blanket of smoke that has triggered health alarms in U.S. cities.
According to the FAA, Newark currently experiences delays averaging 82 minutes, while LaGuardia ground delays are about two hours and departure delays are about 30 minutes.
Recall that the New York area has the most congested airspace in the United States.
