“American’s alliance with JetSMART opens up a world of possibilities for our customers to have access to the largest network, lowest fares and best travel rewards program in America,” Johnson said. “I am thrilled to join the JetSMART board of directors during this exciting phase of our partnership.”

During Steve’s first board meeting, held at JetSMART’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile, Andrew Broderick, CEO of Indigo Partners, commented, “We are proud to have Steve join our board. His experience and industry knowledge will be a great asset as we expand our partnership with American and work towards JetSMART’s goal of connecting 100 million passengers in South America.”

The alliance between JetSMART and American Airlines

In 2023, the two airlines launched their strategic alliance with the sale of codeshare flights between the United States and Chile, initiating the creation of the largest route network in the Americas, and with access to travel benefits for customers of both airlines. The alliance includes a broad network of codeshare routes and, by the end of 2024, will add access for JetSMART customers to American’s AAdvantage® loyalty program.

The alliance includes a minority investment by American in JetSMART, which will contribute to the company’s development in South America. The partnership will enable JetSMART to expand in Latin America and contribute to the regional economy by increasing the dynamism of tourism and other productive sectors in which air transportation is fundamental.
