Panama: Tocumen Airport Terminal 1 turns 46 years old
Terminal 1 of Tocumen International Airport, which serves Panama City, is celebrating its 46th anniversary as an essential infrastructure for air transportation in the Americas.
Since its inauguration on August 15, 1978, the airport’s Terminal 1 (T1) has undergone major transformations in its infrastructure; in 2006 it underwent an expansion and renovation program aimed at modernizing and improving its services.
With 33 gates, four remote positions and a varied commercial and gastronomic offer, T1 is part of the airport complex that has been consolidated throughout its almost five decades as a modern air terminal with some of the most advanced airport facilities.

Since its inception, T1 has been an important driver of the country’s economic development, generating direct and indirect employment, in addition to the contribution it makes to the State’s finances.
José Ruiz Blanco, general manager of Tocumen S.A., pointed out that “without a doubt these 46 years have been a true adventure of growth; we are pleased to be co-participants in the evolution of one of the main companies of the State”.
“We thank all the professionals who have worked so that the 46 years of Terminal 1 have been a success. We also recognize the efforts of organizations and institutions that have been an active part of this history; their contribution has been essential for this airport infrastructure to reach the position it holds,” added Ruiz Blanco.
