JetBlue plans to enter Venezuelan market: Requests New Route Between Fort Lauderdale and Caracas
JetBlue announced this Thursday its intention to launch non-stop flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, which serves Caracas. This strategic move will mark the U.S. carrier’s inaugural operation into Venezuelan territory.
A Strategic Air Bridge for the Venezuelan Diaspora
The primary objective of launching this route is to cater to the robust VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) passenger demand. South Florida is home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities abroad, meaning this link will provide a direct and efficient connectivity alternative.
Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s Vice President of Network Planning and Airline Partnerships, highlighted the value of this expansion:
“Fort Lauderdale continues to serve as JetBlue’s gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America, and we believe there is a significant opportunity to expand our footprint in the region with planned service to Caracas.”

Operational Details and Fleet
The airline has already defined the operational pillars for this new route, pending the corresponding regulatory approvals:
- Regulatory Status: The proposed route remains subject to receiving government approval and completing the applicable processes to operate in Venezuela.
- Timeline: JetBlue plans to inaugurate services before the end of the year, anticipating that tickets will go on sale within the coming months.
- Assigned Aircraft: Flights will be operated utilizing Airbus A320 aircraft.
- Inflight Experience: The carrier will maintain its standard service offerings, including its free and unlimited high-speed Fly-Fi internet, seatback on-demand entertainment, as well as complimentary drinks and snacks.
Consolidating the Fort Lauderdale Hub
The addition of Caracas aligns with JetBlue’s growth strategy at Fort Lauderdale, one of its core focus cities and a key gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The airline recently unveiled the largest schedule in its history at the airport, adding 11 new destinations and increasing frequencies across domestic and international markets. Projecting nearly 130 daily departures during the summer season, Fort Lauderdale is cementing its position as a critical node in the airline’s network, allowing passengers originating in Caracas to seamlessly connect to the rest of the carrier’s destinations across the Americas.
