Virgin Australia inaugurated its direct services between Canberra and Bali on Monday, marking the airline’s first international flight from the nation’s capital. This new seasonal route will provide a direct connectivity alternative, sparing passengers from regional communities the need to transit through terminals in Sydney or Brisbane.

Strategic Network Expansion and Regional Connectivity

The route will operate three times a week, adding more than 40,000 annual seats between Australia and the popular Indonesian tourist destination. With this addition, Virgin Australia consolidates its presence in Bali, exceeding half a million seats per year across its global network, which already spans flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and, as of today, Canberra.

Libby Minogue, Virgin Australia’s Chief Marketing and Customer Officer, highlighted the significance of this strategic step for the airline’s network growth and enhanced connectivity for travelers.

“Today we celebrate a significant milestone for Virgin Australia as we operate our first international flight from Canberra, directly connecting the nation’s capital with one of the most popular international destinations for Australians,” Minogue stated.

Operational Details and Fleet

Services between Canberra and Bali will be operated on a seasonal basis, providing the carrier with the flexibility to increase frequencies during peak travel periods as market demand dictates.

To operate this international link, Virgin Australia will deploy its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which feature the following cabin configurations and onboard service options:

  • Business Class
  • Economy X (Economy class seats with extra legroom)
  • Economy Class

With the inauguration of this route, Virgin Australia not only decentralizes access to international travel for residents of the capital and its surrounding regions, but also establishes a direct and efficient bridge to Southeast Asia.
