Venezuela: Laser Airlines Reorganizes Domestic Network and Relocates Operations to Maracay
Laser Airlines announced a temporary restructuring of its domestic route network as a direct response to the closure of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. This terminal, which serves as the country’s main airport, had to suspend all commercial activities after being affected by strong earthquakes recorded in northern Venezuela.
To mitigate the impact on passenger flow and ensure the operational continuity of commercial air transport, Laser Airlines has selected El Libertador Air Base in Palo Negro, located in the city of Maracay, Aragua state, as its alternative contingency terminal. The relocation measure will formally take effect starting next Friday, July 17, 2026, allowing passengers to bypass the physical and logistical restrictions currently in place at the country’s primary airport.
Scheduled Routes and Frequencies from Aragua
The contingency plan designed by the airline’s operations management aims to efficiently maintain passenger connectivity with the main demographic and economic hubs in the country’s interior. The projected operations from the Aragua military runway will connect daily with four strategic destinations:
- Maracay – Barcelona: Will have three (3) daily round-trip frequencies to General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport.
- Maracay – Porlamar: Will have two (2) daily round-trip operations to General en Jefe Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport.
- Maracay – Maracaibo: Will maintain one (1) daily frequency in both directions to La Chinita International Airport.
- Maracay – El Vigía: Will have a guaranteed one (1) daily round-trip frequency to Juan Pablo Pérez Alfonzo Airport.

Baggage Policies and Operational Recommendations for Travelers
In order to ensure smooth dispatch and boarding processes at an aeronautical infrastructure adapting to this unexpected flow of civilian passengers, Laser Airlines has issued a set of mandatory guidelines for travelers with confirmed reservations:
- Early Arrival at Terminal: Travelers are categorically urged to arrive at El Libertador Airport with sufficient advance notice to complete security protocols, document verification, and baggage check-in.
- Allowed Baggage Allowance: Current regulations will be strictly applied according to the purchased airfare. In general, the standard allowance includes carrying one personal item in the cabin weighing up to 10 kilograms, and one piece of checked baggage in the hold up to a limit of 23 kilograms for tickets that include this benefit.
- Excess Cargo: The transport of additional or overweight baggage will be strictly subject to physical space availability in the aircraft holds and will require payment of the supplementary fare charges stipulated by the company at the counter.
The provisional relocation of Laser Airlines’ domestic services to Aragua state is not an isolated event; rather, it is part of a package of contingency measures implemented in a coordinated manner by several of the country’s airlines. The primary goal of the national aviation industry is to safeguard Venezuela’s domestic and international mobility and resilience in the face of the forced shutdown of Maiquetía.
