American Airlines resumed its non-stop operations between Miami International Airport and Maracaibo, Venezuela, this Tuesday. This service reactivation comes after a seven-year interruption, consolidating the U.S. carrier as the only airline to offer a direct connection between the capital of the state of Zulia and U.S. territory.
The reinstatement of Maracaibo into the airline’s global destination network comes just a few months after the carrier resumed scheduled flights on April 30 to Maiquetía International Airport, the main gateway serving Caracas. However, operations to the Venezuelan capital are currently temporarily suspended due to the closure of the airport infrastructure following the strong earthquakes recently recorded in the country’s central region.
Operational Specifications and Fleet
The scheduled service will offer one daily flight, ensuring constant connectivity for passenger traffic from Venezuela’s western region. The operation has been delegated to Envoy Air, a wholly-owned regional subsidiary of American Airlines Group.
The route is operated utilizing Embraer E-175 single-aisle aircraft. The fleet type is configured to carry a total of 76 passengers, arranged in a two-class layout:
- Business Class: 12 seats
- Economy Class: 64 seats
Scheduled Flight Itinerary
The timetables established to cover the daily frequency between both destinations operate under the following schedule:
- Miami – Maracaibo: Departure at 10:10, arriving at 13:30.
- Maracaibo – Miami: Departure at 14:10, arriving at 17:15.
Safety Valve and Humanitarian Corridor
The launch of this sector not only responds to commercial dynamics but also acts as a vital safety valve for the domestic air transport system. The high strategic value of this link during the current contingency serves as an indispensable corridor for family reunification and the transport of relief supplies.
Furthermore, the reactivation substantially optimizes travel for corporate passengers who require efficient entry into or departure from Venezuelan territory.
