Arajet Announces New Direct Route Between Montevideo and Punta Cana
Arajet and Carrasco International Airport have finalized a commercial agreement to launch the first direct air link between Uruguay and the Dominican Republic. The route is scheduled to commence operations on March 3, 2027, with three weekly frequencies, connecting the Uruguayan capital with Punta Cana and strengthening the country’s air connectivity network with the Caribbean and North America.
A Milestone in Uruguay–Caribbean Air Connectivity
The official announcement took place at Carrasco International Airport during an event attended by Uruguay’s Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, alongside executives from the country’s primary air terminal and the airline. The event formally marked the opening of ticket sales for the new nonstop service.
The Minister of Tourism highlighted the institutional and economic relevance of the agreement for the local commercial aviation market:
“This is yet another demonstration of the strategic importance this ministry places on improving our country’s connectivity. Greater connectivity brings expanded opportunities for the development of the sector,” stated Pablo Menoni, Minister of Tourism.

Strategic Consolidation of the Dominican Hub
The route launch aligns with the airline’s expansion strategy to position the Dominican Republic as a key traffic distribution hub in the Americas. Arajet, which began operations in 2022 and has transported over four million passengers, operates from dual bases at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana International Airport.
“This new service represents a significant step forward in our mission to continue democratizing the skies of the continent with affordable fares and efficient service. Opening this route not only marks the first direct connection between Uruguay and the Dominican Republic, but also reinforces our vision to consolidate the Dominican Republic as the continent’s new hub, bringing the Americas closer through an ever-expanding route network,” declared Manuel Luna, Chief Communications Officer (CCO) at Arajet.
Through its connecting hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, the carrier’s network will enable passengers departing from Montevideo to connect to 29 destinations across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
With this addition, Arajet continues to expand its value proposition in South America, while Carrasco Airport broadens its portfolio of international carriers and direct routing options to the Caribbean.
