easyJet has announced a new partnership with aviation technology provider i6 Group to deploy the eHandshake digital refueling platform across its entire route network. This tool will comprehensively modernize the way aviation fuel is ordered, delivered, and verified, integrating directly into the ETechlog platform currently utilized by flight crews.

The initiative is part of the airline’s ongoing strategy to enhance the quality of operational data, prevent unnecessary fuel tankering, and drive greater operational efficiency both on the ground and in flight.

Digitalizing Fuel Management: Precision and Sustainability

By replacing traditional paper-based processes with a unified digital workflow, eHandshake connects pilots, fuel suppliers, and operations teams in real time. This digital ecosystem streamlines communication and increases the accuracy of fuel orders and dispatches, which will also prevent the estimated consumption of 600,000 sheets of paper per year.

The technology provides end-to-end visibility and control over refueling across the airline’s network, ensuring that each aircraft receives strictly the amount required for its flight segment. By avoiding the carriage of unnecessary weight—and the associated additional fuel burn required to transport that extra mass—easyJet projects a reduction of up to 10,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Phased Deployment Across the Route Network

The implementation plan for the system on flight decks will be executed through a progressive rollout:

  • Initial Phase: Coverage of approximately half of the airline’s operational network.
  • Three-Year Projection: System expansion to reach nearly 90% of the carrier’s destinations.

Flight Deck Operational Workflow

The new digital procedure creates a complete audit trail for every fueling event, logging planned, requested, delivered, and crew-accepted fuel figures:

  • Electronic Ordering: Pilots transmit fuel orders digitally. Fuel vendors receive precise information before positioning at the aircraft, reducing potential ground delays.
  • Delivery Logging: Each upload is recorded digitally and confirmed by the pilot within the platform interface.
  • Data Centralization: Information is stored in a centralized database, delivering total transparency, facilitating detailed audits, and supporting precise commercial and industrial invoice reconciliation.

Operational efficiency enhancements through the digitalization of refueling represent a core pillar in easyJet’s Net Zero roadmap. The airline maintains its commitment to fleet decarbonization and reaffirms its target to achieve a 35% reduction in carbon emissions intensity by 2035.
