Panama: Passenger traffic Tocumen Airport increased 24% in May.
Air traffic continues to show positive signs in Panama, although the industry has yet to overcome the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic with its waves of contagions and new variants of the virus around the world. In May, Tocumen International Airport, the country’s main airport, handled 601,278 people, or 145,014 more passengers than in April, representing an increase of 24%.
In recent weeks, airlines such as Copa Airlines and Iberia have increased their weekly frequencies, and others such as Avianca, Air France and Air Europa have announced the reactivation of their operations to and from Tocumen.

“Panama has comparative advantages that make it a unique connection point in the region, with the best conditions for the recovery of air operations and in turn boosting other activities such as tourism and logistics conglomerate,” said Raffoul Arab Pinzón, General Manager of Tocumen S.A.
As for the number of operations, in line with traffic, at the end of May 2021, a total of 17 commercial airlines and 16 cargo airlines operate at Tocumen International Airport, which during the first 5 months of this year, carried out a total of 26,987 air activities, equivalent to an average of 179 operations per day.
Tocumen International Airport has handled a total of 3,343,916 million passengers since the resumption of commercial flights on October 12, 2020 through May of this year.
