A Boeing 737-800, registration HP1539CMP, of Copa Airlines was involved in an incident when it skidded off the runway during its landing at Panama’s Tocumen Airport on Sunday night.
The aircraft, which was operating flight CM135 between Mexico City and Panama City, was carrying 159 passengers and 7 crew members. No injuries were reported, and all were taken to the terminal where they received assistance from company personnel.

Copa Airlines informed that of the total number of passengers, some connecting passengers will continue with their itinerary in the next few hours, while the rest will be placed in a local hotel and will complete their trip at a later date.
Currently, the aircraft remains at the site of the incident and will be removed by specialized personnel as soon as possible. Likewise, the airline informed that, due to the temporary closure of the airport, one flight was diverted to Panama Pacifico airport while others were delayed. Tocumen International Airport has already announced the reopening of one of its two runways and operations have resumed.
The incident occurred just as a heavy downpour accompanied by wind gusts was falling in the Panamanian capital. Earlier, the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued a rain prevention alert due to tropical storm Ian.
