Tocumen International Airport, which serves Panama City, has initiated the implementation of a certified Environmental Management System under the ISO 14001 standard.
The objective is for this system to have a strategic plan that will lead to compliance with the environmental performance goals of Tocumen Airport and the other terminals managed by the company in Panama – Pacífico, Río Hato, David and Colón.

Raffoul Arab, general manager of Tocumen, S.A., pointed out that the management model to be implemented is oriented towards the sustained reduction of CO2 emissions and the environmental footprint generated by all the operations of Terminals 1 and 2 and the regional airports.
The proposed environmental management model sets out the environmental responsibilities and roles of all the key players in the airport activity, including employees, airlines, commercial concessionaires, and neighboring communities, among others.
Arab added that this environmental certification is very important and a great legacy for the country and the region. “The country and the planet require airports that, in addition to being safe, healthy, punctual and comfortable, are also sustainable and environmentally friendly,” he said.
The environmental certification process is in the last phase of development and should be completed by March 2023.
