Spain: Aena airports register more than 77.4 million passengers in first four months of the year

Aena network airports closed the first four months of the year with 77,466,138 passengers, 32.7% more than in the same period last year and 1.9% more than in 2019.

Between January and April, 695,549 aircraft movements were recorded (1.5% more than in 2019) and 336,909 tons of cargo were transported, which is 0.1% more than in the same period of 2019.

In the month of April 2023, 23,820,269 passengers have been reached, thus exceeding by 2.6% the data for the same month of 2019, the pre-pandemic year. This also represents an increase of 16.4% compared to April 2022.

Last month, 204,205 aircraft movements were operated, which means exceeding 2019 data by 5% and 2022 by 8.2%. On the cargo side, 85,316 tons of cargo were handled, down 1.1% compared to the same month in 2019 and up 3.2% compared to April 2022.

Of the total number of passengers registered in April, 23,756,597 were commercial passengers. Of these, 15,996,343 traveled on international flights, down 0.1% from April 2019 and up 16.9% from 2022, while 7,760,254 traveled on domestic flights, up 8.8% from before the pandemic and up 15.4% from last year.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the fourth month of the year with 4,871,415, representing a decrease of 3.6% over April 2019 and a growth of 20.6% compared to April last year.

They are followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,202,059 (-7.1% compared to 2019 and +19.3% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca, with 2,731,124 (+8.6% and +11.9%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,020,881 (+10.6% and +21.7%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1. 435,274 (+7% and +19.5%); Gran Canaria, with 1,166,198 (+5.6% and +8.6%) and Tenerife South, with 1,023,097 passengers, up 8.5% over the same month of 2019 and 6.2% over the passengers reached in April 2022.
