Qatar Airways and British Airways operate the world’s largest joint airline business agreement covering more than 60 countries and, as of this July, Iberia has joined them to enhance the connectivity that the three airlines offer their customers.

As a result of its integration in this agreement, on December 11 Iberia will start operating a new daily flight from Madrid to Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.

This will mean customers will be able to connect to more than 200 destinations through the three global airlines. Iberia and Qatar Airways will jointly offer three daily frequencies between Madrid and Doha, significantly improving connectivity between the Iberian Peninsula and major markets in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Iberia will operate this route with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which has 288 seats in two classes, Business and Economy.

Iberia to exceed 300 weekly flights with Latin America in the upcoming winter season

The addition of the Spanish airline to this alliance expands the options for customers with an extensive network of destinations, flight schedules and fares; highly efficient connectivity through Doha, London and Madrid; and the comfort of market-recognized business cabins such as Qatar Airways’ Qsuite, British Airways’ Club Suite, and Iberia’s Business Class.

Whether for leisure or business, travelers from Spain and Portugal will now be able to connect to a wide network of new and attractive destinations. Relaxing in the Maldives and the Seychelles, adventuring in Tanzania and Nepal, enjoying a cultural vacation in India and Oman, shopping in Singapore and Thailand, or visiting friends and family in Australia and Hong Kong, will now be more accessible trips with more flight options.

Customers from the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia will also have more opportunities to fly to Madrid, Lisbon, Ibiza, Malaga, Gran Canaria and dozens of other destinations in Spain and Portugal.

Another of the most relevant benefits of the extension of this joint business agreement is that customers of the three airlines’ loyalty programs – British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus and Qatar Airways Privilege Club – will be able to accumulate and redeem Avios, the common currency for the three airlines, on their travels.

“We are very excited about the launch of our Madrid-Doha route, and our JB integration with Qatar Airways and British Airways is excellent news for our customers. Through hubs in London and Doha, we are building the much-desired bridge between Spain and more than 200 destinations in Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa, with the most efficient connections,” said Iberia President and CEO Fernando Candela.

“At Qatar Airways, we believe in connecting travelers to the destinations of their choice, and that’s why we are now enhancing the successful joint venture with British Airways with the addition of another oneworld member, Iberia,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.

“Last year we expanded our joint commercial partnership with Qatar Airways with the addition of 42 countries, and I am very pleased to see it grow even further as we welcome Iberia on board. Our commitment is to offer our customers as much choice as possible and, working so closely with our partners in Madrid and Doha, connects British Airways to more than 200 destinations around the world,” commented British Airways President and CEO Sean Doyle.
