Panama: Tocumen Airport handled more than 8.5 million passengers in first half of 2023

During the first half of this year, Tocumen International Airport handled 8,583,426 passengers, 1,277,239 more than the same period of 2022.

During the month of June, the air terminal processed 1,441,346 passengers and moved 17,646 metric tons of cargo.

“The June 2023 indicators confirm the positive trend of the industry, with a steady and robust growth in relation to the first half 2022 and higher than the highest historical passenger record of 2019 for the same period,” commented Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport.

Destinations and Markets

In terms of international connections, in June Tocumen maintained direct routes to 86 destinations, through 16 commercial airlines offering services to the main cities in the Americas and Europe.

June results indicate that of the total number of passengers using the Tocumen terminal, 67% were connecting passengers. In addition, 11,401 aircraft movements were handled.

According to data provided by the Statistics Department of Tocumen International Airport, the markets with the greatest regional movement in June were South America with 44%, followed by North America with 28%, the Caribbean with 12%, Central America with 10%, and the European markets with 5%.

Regional terminals and cargo

As for the cargo terminal, 99,854 metric tons of merchandise were mobilized during the first six months of the year 2023.

The Panama Pacifico, Enrique Malek, Scarlett Martinez and Enrique A. Jimenez regional terminals, managed by Tocumen, S.A., registered 366,354 passengers and 12,033 aircraft operations during the first semester of this year.
