ATR, the world’s leading manufacturer of regional aircraft, announced that FedEx has ordered 10 additional ATR 72-600F aircraft, adding to a previous order of 30 units. Deliveries are scheduled between 2027 and 2029.
A Design Optimized for Cargo Operations
The ATR 72-600F is the only regional freighter currently in production, incorporating the most advanced technologies from the ATR -600 series. Specifically designed for logistics operations, its configuration maximizes available volume up to 75 m³. This is achieved through the inclusion of nine vertical nets, floor anchoring points, and side rails.
Additionally, its wide door, integrated loading system, and spacious cross-section allow it to accommodate standard industry containers (ULDs) and operate in conjunction with larger-capacity freighters. These features enhance the efficiency and flexibility of cargo transportation within global logistics networks.

Impact on FedEx’s Fleet
With a payload capacity of 9.2 tons, the ATR 72-600F becomes a strategic asset within FedEx’s fleet, replacing older aircraft and optimizing operations on key routes. Its versatility enables it to operate in diverse environments, from the heat of Miami, Florida, to the cold temperatures of Anchorage, Alaska.
These aircraft play a crucial role in FedEx’s feeder operations, ensuring coverage of lower-demand markets and facilitating an efficient and reliable logistics network.
Alexis Vidal, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ATR, stated: “FedEx’s decision to order more ATR 72-600F aircraft underscores their confidence in the performance and versatility of our aircraft. Our freighter model offers significant advantages over passenger-to-freighter conversions, including greater reliability, availability, and better long-term planning.”
This new order is part of the undisclosed orders ATR announced in 2024, further solidifying its position in the regional freighter market.
