American Airlines continues to expand its international network with a new seasonal connection linking New York (JFK) to Edinburgh, Scotland, starting in March 2026. This route marks the international debut of the Airbus A321XLR with the airline.
A Step Forward in Transatlantic Connectivity
Following the success of its seasonal operation between Philadelphia and Edinburgh last summer, the US carrier is strengthening its presence in the Scottish market with this new route from JFK Airport, which will be available from March 8, 2026, to October 24, 2026.
Thanks to the joint Atlantic alliance with British Airways, passengers will be able to connect easily from Edinburgh to destinations such as England, Italy, and Spain.
“After a successful summer in Edinburgh, American is excited to offer a second route to give travelers more access to one of their favorite destinations,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines’ Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. “With the innovative Airbus A321XLR in our fleet, we couldn’t be more thrilled to connect the Big Apple with Auld Reekie. This is the perfect aircraft to open this route and offer an elevated premium experience.”

A321XLR: Efficiency and Comfort in One Aircraft
American Airlines becomes the first US carrier to operate the Airbus A321XLR, which features 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 in Premium Economy, and 123 in Main Cabin.
All passengers will enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, free onboard entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity, and seats with wireless charging.
The Flagship Suites offer fully reclining seats with direct aisle access, while Premium Economy includes enhanced headrests, footrests, and additional comfort ideal for long flights.
Onboard Dining Experience
On transatlantic flights, American will serve complimentary hot meals and beverages in all classes. Menus will rotate monthly, incorporating new flavors designed to enhance the onboard culinary experience. The airline indicated that more details on these options will be provided in the coming months.
Expansion with the A321XLR
The JFK-EDI flight will be American’s seventh new transatlantic route for the summer of 2026, joining other recently announced routes to Budapest (BUD) and Prague (PRG).
Prior to its international debut, the A321XLR will enter service on flights between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) starting December 18, operating on that domestic route until March 2026. As more units are received, American plans to deploy the model on new international and transcontinental destinations.
